Adrian Durham labelled Tottenham Hotspur fans ‘deluded and wrong’ when discussing the future of Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgium international is out of contract in north London and has been linked with a move to Manchester United as Spurs consider cashing in.
Aldeweireld’s value is set to sky rocket after his £25million release clause expired at midnight on Friday morning.
There are just two weeks left in the transfer window, meaning Spurs are no longer contractually obliged to sell the Belgian for the bargain basement fee.
But Durham believes the former Southampton defender would not justify a lofty fee and explained why, in his opinion, the centre-back is overrated.
“It’s because he is not good enough, it is as simple as that,” Durham said on Drivetime.
“He’s 30-years-old as well, if he goes anywhere he’s going to want a big deal. Nobody is going to want to pay him those big wages over a long term.
“Because he is not at an age where he is going to be effective for a top club in Europe.
“So the best he could hope for is a bit like [Wilfried] Zaha; going to Arsenal or going to Everton. He wouldn’t have been going to one of the top clubs in Europe.
“They had the chance, it’s not like they didn’t know about it, they’re well aware of it, but he’s 30 and he’s OK!

“The only people who think he is one of the best in the world or one of the best in the Premier League are Spurs fans.
“And we all know how deluded and wrong they are! So that’s the reason.”
