Antoine Griezmann’s move to Barcelona has not gone down well with Atletico Madrid fans who have defaced their former player’s plaque outside the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

The La Liga champions announced the signing of the France World Cup winner on Friday afternoon after activating his £108million (€120million) release clause.

The transfer saga has rumbled on for months with Griezmann even announcing he was leaving Atleti before he had officially signed for someone else.

Atletico fans have raged at what they feel is a betrayal by the player, who has left the club just a year after signing a long-term contract with them.

And to make their feelings on the matter clear, some fans have vandalised a plaque to Griezmann by plastering stickers and dirt over it, while making various indentations.

Atletico Madrid have claimed Barcelona owe them an extra £72million for Griezmann.

While the saga appears to be over, Atletico have contested the transfer as they claim Barca used a loophole to avoid having to pay a much higher fee for Griezmann.

They believe the ‘commitment of the player and FC Barcelona’ was closed before his buyout clause dropped from £179million (€200million) to £108million on July 1.
