Ed Woodward: Manchester United executive vice-chairman misses pre-season tour as he looks to secure more transfers

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has missed the club’s pre-season tour as he prioritises getting more transfers done.

It is the first time he’s not been on a tour since he started at Old Trafford in 2013, where he replaced David Gill.

Woodward is working tirelessly to bring new players to Manchester United

Woodward has already helped sign winger Daniel James from Swansea for £15million and full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50m from Crystal Palace.

They are also close to tying down a new deal for goalkeeper David de Gea.

However, the club are looking to bring in more players before transfer deadline day on August 8.

United have been heavily linked with defender Harry Maguire but Leicester have turned down two bids for him.

It is understood Leicester value Maguire at between £80-90million but the Red Devils’ highest offer for the England international has been £70m.

However, they refuse to give up in their pursuit of Maguire, who has also been linked with a move to their local rivals Manchester City.

Another player linked with a move to Old Trafford is Bruno Fernandes but Sporting Lisbon want around £70m for the midfielder.

The 20-time English top flight champions have also been linked with a move for Liverpool target Nicolas Pepe, who plays for Ligue 1 side Lille.

Meanwhile, United are still continuing their search for a technical director.

They recently announced the promotion of former academy chief Nicky Butt to head of first-team development.
