Jose Mourinho is eager for a return to management but insists he will wait until for the right opportunity.

Mourinho rejected an £88million offer to take over at Guangzhou Evergrande, who were willing to pay the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss a staggering £28m per season, with bonuses.

The Portuguese was sacked by United in December after leading the Red Devils to their worst start in Premier League history.

He had recently emerged as the shock favourite to succeed Rafael Benitez at Newcastle, but revealed he will not join a club who settle for ‘seventh, eighth or ninth’.

Speaking to Sky Sports at Silverstone ahead of Sunday’s British Grand Prix, Mourinho said the job must be the right one to entice him back.

“I am hungry to get back, but I will wait for the right club, for the right project,” he said.

“And, in the meantime, I am doing things I like to do. I prefer to work, but I like other sports and this is a good opportunity to enjoy.”

In his time away from the managerial merry-go-round, the 56-year-old has worked extensively as a pundit for beIN SPORTS, even covering the Champions League final with former managerial rival and ex-Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger.
