Laurence Bassini has told talkSPORT he has been given £25million by West ham co-owner David Sullivan to help him buy Bolton Wanderers.

The British businessman has not given up hope of completing his takeover of the cash-strapped outfit, despite seeing a bid to buy them in May collapsing and leading to the club entering administration.

Earlier this year, Bassini was adamant he had reached an agreement to buy Bolton, who were relegated to League One following a disastrous season with financial problems off the pitch.

However, Bolton then released a statement clarifying that was not the case.

Bizarrely, Bassini again insisted to talkSPORT that he had ‘taken control’ of the club and branded owner Ken Anderson a ‘liar’.

His bid eventually collapsed, however, as he could not provide proof of funds.

Since then, the Trotters’ administrators have said they have a ‘Heads of Terms’ agreement signed with the ‘preferred bidder’ – rumoured to be a consortium featuring Dutch businessman Rob Jansen and former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt.

However, Bassini has now revealed he plans to make another bid for the Lancashire club after receiving a gift from an old friend – West Ham chief Sullivan.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT host Jim White on Friday, Bassini claim: “Dave Sullivan, who I’ve known since I was a child, called me and said, ‘look Laurence, you’re going to need some help because you’re getting slaughtered out there’.

“He then says, ‘I’m going to give you the money so you can go and do this. I’m going to give you £25million so you can sort yourself out’ – which he’s done.

“I’ve got seven or eight of my own which is available.

“He spoke to Simon Jordan – and Simon was shocked that he’d done it.

“[Sullivan] said, ‘he needs the help because nobody is believing it and it’s looked pretty bad’.”

Jim then interrupted to ask whether Bassini would confirm he has bid around £28million for Bolton, with Sullivan’s assistance.

“Yes,” he replied.

“They are saying, ‘no, we’ve got a preferred bidder’, but we are the better choice because: A, we’re footballing people, and B, financially we’ll stabilise the club.”

When asked what Sullivan will get out the deal, Bassini continued: “Me and David are doing quite a lot of property at the moment.

“The [Bolton] stadium needs a refurb, the hotel [within the stadium] needs sorting, the training ground needs sorting… there are a lot of things that need sorting out.”

And on the question of whether Sullivan being involved will go against any regulations?

“No,” Bassini added, “because David is not going to be involved with the club.

“He’ll help with the assets, as he’s helped me before with things and has been great.”

And will Bassini repay the West Ham co-owner in full when the time comes?

He finished: “Yes, he’s not even concerned about that. That is not a problem.”
