Laurent Koscielny ‘taking legal advice’ against Arsenal after being told to take a 50 per cent pay cut

Laurent Koscielny is reportedly taking legal advice over his situation at Arsenal as he is believed to have been told to take a 50 per cent pay cut.

The 33-year-old refused to take part in the Gunners’ pre-season tour of the United States.

Koscielny reportedly wants to leave Arsenal this summer to secure his future in the final stages of his career

The defender is in the final year of his contract and talks over a new deal have broken down.

He is now believed to want a return to his homeland and is pushing for a free transfer.

The Sun report that Koscielny is ready for a legal showdown with Arsenal after being offered what he considers a derisory contract offer.

Arsenal are in America but without club captain Koscielny

The centre-back is currently earning £90,000-a-week but reports suggest he was only offered a deal worth half of that over the next two years.

He has a two-year offer from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux but their offer only stands if they can get him on a free transfer.

The Gunners are not keen on letting him leave for nothing, though, and want at least £9million.

Koscielny has been forced to train with the Arsenal youth team at London Colney and faces a fine of two weeks’ wages.

Unai Emery’s continued their good pre-season tour of the United States with a 2-1 friendly win over Bayern Munich.

The defender’s decision to not travel on their tour has split opinion with former players.

Mathieu Flamini defended the club captain’s move and took to Instagram to show his support for his friend.

Former Gunner Olivier Giroud expressed sympathy for his compatriot and was baffled at how a good servant to the club has ended up in this situation.

Kevin Campbell was less sympathetic, though, and labelled Koscielny a disgrace while Perry Groves told talkSPORT also slammed the centre back for trying to force a move away from the Emirates.
