Manchester City are confident they can beat rivals United to the signing of Harry Maguire, according to reports.
The Leicester City defender, who played 45 minutes for Brendan Rodgers’ side at Scunthorpe, looked set to move to Old Trafford for £80million.
However, it seems Pep Guardiola is refusing to admit defeat in pursuit of the England centre-back.
According to The Sun, City feel they can strike at the 11th hour as United’s deal for Maguire hangs in the balance.
The 26-year-old has told his teammates and Rodgers he wants out of the King Power this summer and was said to be flattered at interest from the Red Devils.
But reports earlier in the summer suggested he wanted a move to rivals City to play for Pep Guardiola.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers will use £45m of any Maguire sale to prise Lewis Dunk, 27, from Brighton.
Meanwhile, champions City finally set off for China yesterday morning at the third attempt.
