Kieran Tripper accidentally thanked NBA side San Antonio Spurs on Instagram after completing his £21m move to Atletico Madrid.
The full-back became Tottenham’s first sale of the summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to reshape his squad ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Trippier, who has penned a three year deal with the LaLiga club to become their first English player in 95 years, made his last appearance for Tottenham in the Champions League final loss to Liverpool – at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano home.
And he used his Instagram account on Wednesday evening to express his gratitude to the north London club, where he played more than 100 matches.
However, he initially tagged the NBA basketball team, the San Antonio Spurs (@Spurs), in his post rather than the Tottenham Hotspur Instagram account (@spursofficial).

THANK YOU. I’ve met some amazing people at @spursofficial many of whom I now call my friends. To the Tottenham fans from around the world – you’ve been amazing. The support you’ve shown me and the team took us to new heights, and with the new stadium I have no doubt that the team and fans have many exciting times ahead! Wish everyone at the club nothing but the best #spurs #thankyou
“THANK YOU,” he wrote.

A key man in England’s run to the last four of the 2018 World Cup, scoring the opening goal in the semi-final defeat to Croatia, Trippier’s form dipped during the course of the 2018/19 campaign.
But the former Manchester City trainee still made 38 appearances across all competitions last season as Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League, as well as reaching the Champions League final.
Fellow England full-back Danny Rose is also set to move on, having been left out of the Spurs squad for the pre-season tour of Asia.
Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou have been left behind in England too in order to negotiate moves away.
Speaking to talkSPORT before the Trippier sale was announced, former Tottenham star Paul Gascoigne questioned why the club had allowed the player to go for £20m.
“He’s a good player and it’s a good move for him, a big move,” said Gazza.
“But I just can’t believe he’s going for £20million!
“Some of the players are going for so much nowadays, it’s ridiculous. Some of them can’t even trap a bag of cement, honestly!”
Trippier has already joined up with Diego Simeone’s side as they embark on their pre-season tour of the United States.
Upon his arrival, Atletico said: “The Englishman is a versatile full-back who can also play in midfield and has a fantastic right foot.
“Because of all this, we welcome Trippier to the Atleti Family and wish him the best of luck at his new home. Welcome, Kieran!”
Trippier becomes the club’s seventh signing of the summer, following the arrival of Joao Felix, Marcos Llorente, Felipe, Renan Lodi, Ivan Saponjic and Hector Herrera, for a combined £190m.
