Liverpool begin their pre-season scheduled with a friendly against Tranmere tonight.

Just six weeks on from their Champions League triumph over Spurs, the Reds are set to kick off their preparations for the 2019/20 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp and co will be in the USA, Scotland and Switzerland over the coming weeks but they start with a short trip across the Mersey to Tranmere.

Klopp will use the opening matches of their scheduled to give some game-time to his young, up-and-coming players.

He said: “The door is always open to the first team. The thing is you have to go through by yourself – we only open the door, we don’t push you through.

“So, I’m open, I’m very open for exciting football players and if the boys show up, good for them and good for us.”


Tranmere vs Liverpool: Kick-off time

The friendly will take place on Thursday, July 11 and will get under way at 7:30pm. It is being held at Prenton Park.

Liverpool face Bradford City on Sunday before jetting off to the USA for their pre-season tour around the States.

The match will not be broadcast on television in the UK but fans will be able to catch it live on LFCTV and LFCTV GO.

New signing Sepp van den Berg will miss the friendly as he is ineligible while he awaits FIFA clearance following his £2million move from PEC Zwolle.

A number of Liverpool’s first team regulars are still on holiday meaning several academy players will feature.

But the likes of Fabinho, Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana, Joel Matip, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to be included.

Liverpool teenagers Paul Glatzel and Bobby Duncan are also expected to play.
